those animals you visit at the zoo
swooning over their beauty and unfamiliarity
parts of them live
where we can’t protect them
when we’re not obsessing over how adorable they are
we aren’t even thinking about them
our actions hurt far more than just us
every time we pollute the air
and burn those forests down
there’s no space for them to go
nowhere to hide like we can hide
in our temperately conditioned abodes
they’re probably wondering
why they can’t see the stars
as clearly as they once did
they have no way to tell us
with the "insignificant" temperature change
they suffer
we only realize
when it’s too late
when the sign 'endangered'
is labeled on them
if we’re lucky
this is a very powerful message. wow.
