Vaping vs. Marijuana
By- Riya Patel
Many wonder what is more harmful to our bodies Vaping or Marijuana? I wonder the same exact thing. Over the past couple of years, marijuana laws have continued to change across the United States. Marijuana is legalized for adults in over 16 states, including mine! But does anyone really know the long term effects of these drugs? Is one safer than the other? What is the purpose behind legalizing it? Well let's take a look.
Marijuana
Scientifically known as Cannabis otherwise known as marijuana, weed and pot is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant used primarily for medical and recreational purposes. Marijuana can be smoked, consumed and even vaped. Inhaling any variation of smoke is extremely harmful to our lungs. Theres alot of negative effects chronic weed smokers can accumulate such as, chronic bronchitis, weakened immune system and wheezing. Vaping marijuana requires inhaling heated oil through a vaporizing device, often referred to as an e-cigarette. Some people believe vaping is relatively safer than smoking because it doesn’t involve inhaling smoke. But the truth is, when it comes to vaping marijuana, there’s much less known about the pessimistic health effects. Out of the 3 ways consuming marijuana in an edible form is the least risky way of consuming it. Edible marijuana products are in forms of foods such as brownies, cookies and gummies. Ingesting marijuana doesn't have a quick effect, it takes time for the body to react physically and mentally. Ingesting marajuna seem to have no harmful health effects. Most people usually use marijuana medically. Medical marijuana utilizes the marijuana plant or chemicals in it to handle diseases or conditions. Cannabinoids -- the mobile chemicals in medical marijuana -- are alike to chemicals the body makes that are involved in appetite, memory, motion, and agony. Despite its medical functionality, many Americans' opinions towards cannabis changed at the turn of the century. It’s worth considering that research has shown alcohol to be more dangerous than marijuana.
Vaping
A vape, commonly known as an electronic cigarette is a device that stimulates tobacco smoking. Since 2011, there has been a rapid increase in e-cigarettes. Over the years millions and millions of people all around the world have started. Companies come out with delicious sounding flavors to capture people's attention. These new flavors come off as appealing to the younger audiences which causes new generations to get addicted. Vaping may appear less harmful than smoking, but that doesn't make it safe. Nicotine is a substance that is found in all e-cigarettes. It lifts your blood pressure and raises your adrenaline, which increases your heart rate and the likelihood of having a heart attack. Vaping also slows down brain development and affects your memory. Tobacco smoke is a complex, energetic and reactive blend containing around 5,000 chemicals. As opposed to, over 80 chemicals that have been found in e-liquid and e-cigarette vapors, as of 2019. From heavy metals, carcinage compounds, ultrafine particulates, and flavoraants. This could be intoxicating your body day by day. No one really knows what the long term effects for vaping are because they’ve only recently started getting popular but chances include nicotine addiction, mood disorders, and lasting lowering of impulse control. Adults and kids who try vaping for fun and to be cool often get addicted.
What is safer? Marijuana or Vaping?
In my opinion, I believe marijuana is relatively safer than vaping. Mainly because Marijuana is a plant that actually helps people with medical issues rather than people inhaling nicotine which ruins their lungs and bodies. Research has also shown that alcohol is known to cause more damage than marijuana. The fact that vapes contain a lot of chemicals that can slowly poison your body throughout time is terrifying and scary. But it also depends on how much marijuana you consume and the way you do so. New research suggests vaping liquids may also be injurious to health and can cause major problems, including death. So, it seems the least damaging way of consuming marijuana may be to eat it. However, we don't really know the long term effects of these drugs since they havent been around for that long
