Imagine living in the year 2100, do you expect robots to work at stores, helping customers, and stocking shelves? This possibility is not too far off, robotics and artificial intelligence are now booming in technology. Things that can reshape the landscape of our current lives. A world where robots can do the daunting tasks of everyday lives, allowing people themselves to grow. But how will these changes affect the job market and the lifestyles of the human race?
Artificial intelligence is at an all-time high, as most leading technology companies are implementing it to ease all kinds of workflows. Using AI, computers, and machines can work to imitate human logic, allowing companies to use it for specific tasks. Imagine a robot using artificial intelligence; the possibilities are obviously endless and abstract. As paradoxical as it can seem, AI can be specially designed to complete a certain task even without AI, so with the implementation, these robots can learn by using specific methodologies within machine learning and deep learning. Then being able to mimic human-like actions based on the task the robot is designed to do. The real question is: will this be a replacement for human workers? What type of work will these robots be able to accomplish?
Now, when integrating AI with robotics, many people fear a robot takeover where robots gain control over humans and start a rebellion. But something like this is super farfetched since robots need human support to thrive. In reality, it is more likely that people will begin to lose jobs when robots become more readily accessible and used. With the use of robotics, efficiency for certain jobs, such as packaging or manufacturing, is at an all-time high. Since these machines can work for extended periods without needing a break or being fatigued. These robots are also a one-time investment, along with some maintenance when needed. This would come out to be a lot cheaper for these big corporations; instead of having to pay hundreds of employees hourly, a couple of robots could replace most of them with the same efficiency. Currently, there are some positives to having a human worker instead of a machine, since machines cannot differentiate or solve problems that may occur. But when artificial intelligence is implemented into robotics, the goal is for the machines to solve these problems themselves without needing assistance from humans.
As artificial intelligence is slowly being pushed into many aspects of the job market, many people are worried about their jobs being taken. Because of AI integration, productivity is at an all-time high since AI can work 24/7 without any downsides. But when artificial intelligence is introduced to more robotics, should people begin to worry? Robotics helps humans complete tasks ranging from simple to very difficult. However, these robots or machines do not have the same problem-solving skills as humans, which is still necessary and not fully replaced by robotics. However, when artificial intelligence reaches these robots, it should be assumed that they have some level of problem-solving skills and memory to help solve problems in the future and keep everything functioning correctly. For example, in an assembly line, robots are already used to keep some steps fully automated. But if there were ever any mishaps on the line, the machine could break or cause some maintenance problems if not dealt with instantly. Artificial intelligence should be able to stop this problem and try to resolve it without needing the assistance of a human, keeping productivity even higher. So should people begin to worry when this happens? The short answer is no. Right now, machines are replacing low-skill jobs, causing people in those departments to slowly be shifted out, but not to the point where people are obsolete. People who may be in danger of losing their jobs will be placed in a difficult situation, although robotics doing these low-skill jobs leaves so much more opportunity for people to do the things they have always wanted or shift into growing industries.
Finally, artificial intelligence and robotics hold a lot in store for the next generation. When people no longer have to work in low-skill areas, they can strive to do anything they set their minds to. Sooner than ever, these technologies will come into the market and help the lives of people for the best, as well as increase productivity to an all-time high. And no, there is no reason to worry about a robotic uprising that will take over the world. AI and robotics are tools to help the next generation grow and flourish, not make life harder.
